Each year, Our City’s Living Room is transformed with holiday cheer as tuba players and carolers perform underneath Portland’s 75-foot tree generously donated by Stimson Lumber. While this year’s Tree Lighting Celebration may look a little different, the holiday spirit will still be present in Pioneer Courthouse Square throughout the season.

On November 6th, Portland’s Tree, generously donated by Stimson Lumber for the 19th consecutive year, will arrive in Downtown. The 75-foot Douglas Fir tree will embark on its 3-day journey from Stimson Lumber sustainable forestlands in Clatsop County to the Square with the help of Redmond Heavy Hauling.  Once at the Square  NessCampbell Crane will carefully set the Tree in place for the holiday season with the help of Portland Parks & Recreation’s Urban Forestry Team and Pioneer Courthouse Square’s tree assembly crew.  The arrival will be virtually live-streamed across the Square’s Facebook and Instagram platforms to mark the official beginning of the holiday season.

The 37th annual Tree Lighting Presented by SmartPark will be a pre-recorded hour-long special televised program on KGW,
the day after Thanksgiving, on November 27th at 6:30 pm. The program will feature all of the traditional holiday fun with a sing-along led by Thomas Lauderdale and members of Pink Martini, as well as sneak peeks at the Square’s community-building programming and its essential role in contributing to a vibrant Downtown.

Throughout December, Polka Dot Downtown will bring joy and festivity as tubas, carolers, and other local performance artists and arts groups safely perform live accompanied with video streaming for virtual audience engagement. Make sure you’re following the Square on FacebookTwitter and Instagram. to stay up to date on the Downtown Holiday season!
