Pioneer Courthouse Square is thrilled to announce that Portland’s Annual Tree Lighting Sing-Along Presented by Regence BlueCross BlueShield of Oregon will safely unite Portlanders this year in a special televised broadcast on KGW 8 the day after Thanksgiving, Friday, November 27th, at 6:30 PM.

This hour-long special program hosted by KGW’s Nina Mehlhaf and Portland’s own Thomas Lauderdale, will feature Pink Martini, leading Portlanders in a joyful caroling sing-along. The celebration, which will replace the traditional in-person event held in Portland’s Living Room, will include onscreen lyrics and downloadable songbooks for families to celebrate the kick-off of the holiday season in their own Living Rooms. City officials and Santa will help countdown to the moment when more than 20,000 multi-colored LED lights will be turned on in the heart of Portland.

During this unprecedented time, where protecting the health and safety of our community members is of foremost importance, we are proud to have Regence BlueCross BlueShield of Oregon, the most trusted name in health insurance, present a safe community tradition that assures we spread joy, and not germs this holiday season.

In compliance with the Governor’s COVID measures, there will be no large public event for this year’s lighting. The Tree, generously donated by Stimson Lumber Company, will be illuminated and on display in our City’s Living Room the morning after the televised celebration until January 4, 2021.

“While we are currently physically separated, the Square is determined to bring our community together virtually for a very special night of music and holiday celebration,” says Ron Stewart, President of the non-profit Pioneer Courthouse Square Board.
